Prevent respiratory infections in summertime!

Июн 6, 2018

Summer is the most pleasant season of the year, however high temperatures are not alien to the spread of viruses and respiratory infections. The heat causes the body’s defenses to weaken and therefore increase the risks of catching diseases.

Abrupt changes of temperature and humidity are a main source of colds during summer. The exposure of air conditioners operating at extreme temperatures in closed spaces (such as offices, houses, supermarkets, etc.) favors the risks of being sick. In addition, it is necessary to carry out an adequate maintenance and cleaning of the air conditioner device before starting using it; otherwise you will be exposed to contaminated air that spreads bacteria everywhere. Also, during summertime people tend to go to public swimming pools more often increasing the risk of getting an ear infection due to heat and humidity. (2)

The most common respiratory diseases in summer are usually caused by rhinovirus, parainfluenza virus type 3 and adenovirus. These viruses can cause pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, or just a common cold. (3)

For these reasons, it is important to continue taking preventive measures for respiratory diseases during this period, including washing hands, ventilate enclosed spaces, and increase hydration.
